High School & College Debater becomes country's youngest MP and Africa's youngest cabinet minister.

“As a former debater and law graduate, you can expect robust debates in parliament. As long as I have the support and guidance [of my colleagues], I do not think I would go wrong. I will bank on the experience I have, but I am also willing to take advice and guidance from those that have been there before me,” noted Theofelus. “I [will] take on the challenge like I have taken other leadership roles. It is [an] uncharted territory and political space but I am ready to take on the challenge.” -

On March 23rd, 23 year old, Emma Theofelus was appointed by the President of the Republic of Namibia as the new Deputy Minister for Information and Communication Technology and the youngest Minister of Africa.

Theofelus was on both her High School’s Debate Team and College’s Debate Team. She graduated with a law degree from the University of Namibia and a diploma in African feminism and gender studies from the University of South Africa.

At the age of 16 she was junior mayor of Windoek, the capital of Namibia. She was also Vice-President of the Children’s Parliament, lawyer at the Ministry of Justice, youth ambassador to the National Commission of Namibia for UNESCO, member of the board of directors of the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia, and Co-Founder of the Southern African Alliance on Youth Employment.
